Why is Basic Obedience Training Important?

Safety – Good Obedience is necessary when it comes to keeping both your dog and others around you safe. Your dog will be less likely to get into negative encounters or fights with others, and less likely to run into hazardous situations that could pose harm.

Communication and Increased Bonding – Obedience training is our most efficient way of communicating with our dogs and allows us to teach them right from wrong and what to do in unknown/new situations. Communication is obviously crucial when it comes to living with our pups but it is also how we bond with them. A healthy bond is essential for a fun trusting relationship. The more training you do together the better the bond!

Mental Stimulation – Most people believe exercise is the best way to tire out your pup but mental stimulation is just as important. Luckily Obedience training requires lots of mental stimulation and will have your dog knocked out after a good training session!

Better Quality of Life – A dog with good obedience will often be able to have a much more fulfilling life. Trusting and knowing that your dog will listen to you, allows you to give them more freedom and chances to explore. Dogs are also much happier and confident with the structure that obedience training gives them as they trust your guidance and won’t be as unsure in new situations and environments. Being a confident leader for your canine will give them the confidence they need and a greater peace of mind!

Behavioral Issues – Basic obedience is also key when it comes to fixing behavioral issues such as aggression, anxiety, reactivity and more. Lots of people will wait until these issues appear in order to start training, which is often quite challenging and frustrating. Having a good foundation in basic obedience makes it much easier to address these issues, and on top of that a good foundation will often help prevent any of these behavioral issues from arising in the first place!

Basic obedience training is fundamental when it comes to responsible dog ownership and will lead to a better world for our furry friends!
